Research Officers (one year fixed term) – Islamic Intellectual History

University Grade 7, £29,837 – £33,562 per annum

Applications are invited for full-time Research Officers on the IMPAcT Project, to commence on 1 October 2014 for one year.  Five posts are available.  The Research Officer will conduct advanced research leading to the preparation of either a monograph or the critical edition of a previously unpublished primary source relevant for 13^th to 16^th century Islamic intellectual history.  She/he will present research in progress as part of the IMPAcT lecture series and similar events.

Candidates must have, by the time of the appointment, a doctorate or equivalent in a relevant field of study; a primary expertise in Islamic philosophy and/or theology or other relevant field of intellectual history; a strong command of at least one Islamic language and reading knowledge of a second, plus advanced reading knowledge of at least one European language other than English; a thorough understanding of Islamic social and political history of the period; sufficient palaeographical skills to work with Islamic manuscripts; good basic IT skills; good written and oral communication skills; good skills and experience in teamwork; and good planning and time management skills.
